A bitter pill to swallow

Don’t we swallow pills in the first place because they are bitter? If they tasted good, wouldn’t we just chew them like little Flintsone vitamins? This aphorism makes no sense when you think about logically or take it literally. Then again, it’s just a figure of speech. I’m just saying…
