I've used this argument many times - that we've always had a timetable for leaving Iraq and it was based on EVENTS rather than on TIME.

Sheesh, it seems that social promotion in primary schools has taken it's toll on the psyche of America's armchair generals, doesn't it?

Yes. It's depressing. With the press we have today, we could never have won WWII.

Well, don't forget that the West had to be pretty much forced at gunpoint into WW2...only Churchill was for preemptive action. However, I don't believe you can compare the Iraq situation(yet). I don't think American blood should be shed to bring democracy to the Arabs, and "save" them from a tyrant whom they should have deposed by themselves.
Sure, over the decades we are probably headed for a major (World?) war with Islam...and abandoning Iraq now would only make things worse than they already are.
